As a digital innovative agency, MYN Group believes that creativity is vital to the workplace. Creativity helps our team devise innovative solutions to our clients’ problems. We want to talk about why creativity is so crucial to what we do and why creative skills are assets to the workplace.

What is creativity? It is defined as the use of the imagination or original ideas. In a more professional sense, creativity is a manner of problem-solving that determines a novel solution to a problem. For MYN Group, creativity helps us make the most successful and innovative solutions for our clients as possible.

Contrary to popular belief, anyone can be creative—CEOs and salespeople can be just as creative as artists can. In fact, creativity is valued and needed in many workplaces. Linkedin Learning released its list of the soft skills that companies are looking for in 2020. At the top of the list was creativity, followed by collaboration, persuasion, and adaptability. All of these skills are repeats from 2019, suggesting there is a systemic lack of creativity in most workplaces (if you want to learn more about working with different skill sets in the office, click here).

Creativity is important in the workplace because it helps people devise innovative solutions to problems. Further, it’s a skill set that can’t be replaced by automation. Today, anything that can be automated either is or will be soon, but technology can’t be creative. Companies don’t want someone who can do a process-oriented task; they want someone who can dream up a way to fix the projects at hand. They want innovative, better solutions. In other words, they want creativity.

So, if you want to prepare for workplace changes, develop your creative skills now. Boosting your creative skills may seem daunting, so we’ve prepared some tips on how to do it:

  • Pay more attention both to incorporating your own creativity in your life but also to creative solutions others invent around you

  • Explore every angle of a problem to create a new and successful solution. This can include writing out ideas or drawing maps

  • Exercise creativity in your personal life by writing, making art, or listening to music. These actions will reinforce different methods of thinking than you usually rely on

  • Expose yourself to diverse opinions and cultures to understand different methods of thinking. A lot of creativity is removing mental blocks and charging new pathways of thought

  • Get out of the office by taking a short walk in nature. Refreshing your brain will help you examine a problem in new ways

Overall, creativity is an important skill to have in the workplace because it allows you to invent innovative solutions. This skill increases in relevancy every day.
